Yoshiko Waki (*1965 in Japan) is a dancer and choreographer.
In her choreographies and dance (theater) pieces she combines movement with politics and reality. She commutes internationally between the independent scene and state theaters and has worked for the Städtische Bühnen Münster, the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin, the Ruhr-Trienale and the City Contemporary Dance Company (Danny Young, Helen Lai) in Hong Kong, among others.
In 2008 she founded bodytalk together with Rolf Baumgart. Yoshiko Waki is artistic director and, like the other company members, comes from Johann Kresnik's circle.
bodytalk produces regional dance theater mostly in international co-productions and with live music. In their productions they often involve public space, creating choreographies and pieces that are local and political, always starting from the question of what happens when dance and reality collide.
The development of the pieces has been awarded various prizes, including the Cologne Theater Prize several times.
Since 2016 bodytalk is artist in residence at the Theater im Pumpenhaus in Münster.
