Kaouther Tabai, born 1964 in Tunisia and living in Germany since 1983. I came to Munich as part of a DAAD program to support highly talented Tunisian students and studied computer science here at the Technical University. Today I still work in the IT sector.
I started writing as a teenager and participated in competitions for youth literature.
The relationship with my mother tongue, Arabic, was and is very close, and I never thought that I would write in a language other than Arabic, let alone that my debut work Das kleine Dienstmädchen would be published in German.
I came to literary translation in a roundabout way, and over time I have developed a particular affinity for translating poetry.
