Between 2001 and 2021, Heike Gfrereis headed the museum department at the German Literature Archive in Marbach and curated numerous temporary and permanent exhibitions in the field of literature. She was responsible for the founding concept for the Museum of Modern Literature, which opened in 2006, as well as the concepts for the redesign of the Schiller National Museum in 2009 and for the reorientation of the Marbach museum program in 2019. She has been an honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart since 2013 and has been the head of the new staff unit "Literature in Public Space" at the German Literature Archive Marbach since 2022. She is currently working on a study of aesthetic experiences and boundaries in literary archives and exhibitions.
