Gerda Wieggers was born and raised in the east of the Netherlands, on the border with Westphalia.
In addition to her professional activities as a teacher, principal and school inspector, she has taken a second course of study in German literature and the life and literature of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff. This is partly for personal reasons: a special affinity for Droste's work. And on the other hand, because so far very few of her poems have been translated into Dutch.
