Gaby Babić, born 1976 in Frankfurt am Main, child of a family of guest workers from the former Yugoslavia. Went to the cinema a lot, studied in Frankfurt am Main and Paris, ran a water house. Graduated in theater, film and media studies, German and political science.
After working as a program coordinator at the Goethe-Institut Sarajevo, among others, she has been working as a freelance programmer/cultural worker for various film festivals and cultural institutions since 2008. Managed goEast - Festival of Central and Eastern European Film in Wiesbaden for seven festival editions until October 2017. Since January 2018 co-director (with Karola Gramann) of Kinothek Asta Nielsen e.V.. With Karola Gramann and Heide Schlüpmann she conceived Remake. Frankfurter Frauen Film Tage (www.remake-festival.de), which will take place for the second time in November 2019.
Member of the selection committee of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. Texts and seminars on film. Main fields of work and interest: Film and history, critical theory, migration, Eastern European cinema, feminist film work, anti-racism and anti-fascism.
