Dr. Frederike Velbert, born in Moers in 1987, works as a research assistant at the Institute of Landscape Ecology at the University of Münster and completed her PhD in 2021 on Functional Plant Properties in Münsterland Wetlands. These are characteristics of plant species e.g. maximum growth height or leaf thickness that determine survival, growth and reproduction under different environmental conditions. Her interest in functional ecology has also led her several times to Kazakh steppes, where she participated in global research projects. In addition to her research, Ms. Velbert currently gives lectures, tutorials, and seminars on vegetation and restoration ecology.
