Barbara Köhler (*1959 near America/Saxony, ✝︎ 2021 in Mülheim an der Ruhr) was an author and translator.
Her works were always located at the interface between literature, visual art, and performance. She wrote poems and essays, translated texts by Gertrude Stein and Samuel Beckett, among others, and worked with text in space: audio installations, typefaces, and texts for public spaces as well as private gardens, occasionally together with visual artists. Most recently, Lethe | Wasserlösung Sprachraum was shown at Museum DKM, Duisburg as part of the exhibition Kunst & Kohle.
In the last years of her life she was a visiting professor for literary writing at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
