Anna Polke was born four years after her brother Georg, the second child of Karin and Sigmar Polke. She studied acting at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg. After stints at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and Hamburger Schauspielhaus, she has been acting at Theater Oberhausen since 1992, where she was awarded the Audience Award twice in recent years and the First Prize of the Jury in 2018 for her role in The Third Life of Fritz Giga. She is also a photographer and filmmaker herself and has shown her work in various exhibitions. In 2018, Anna Polke founded the non-profit Anna Polke Foundation for the scholarly reappraisal of the work of her father Sigmar Polke and chairs its board of directors.
