English cellist Anna Carewe studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Florence Hooton and David Strange, at the Hochschule (now University) der Künste with Wolfgang Boettcher, and as a scholarship student at the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra Academy. As principal cellist of Ensemble Oriol (now Kammerakademie Potsdam), Anna Carewe became a well-known figure in the Berlin music scene. In 2007 she left the ensemble to devote more time to her own projects.
Anna Carewe's trademark is her remarkable versatility. She takes on the artistic direction of her own projects and plays music ranging from baroque to modern, jazz and improvisation. Likewise, as a continuo cellist on period instruments, she is at home in several European baroque formations. With groups such as the Manon Quartet Berlin, the Berlin Oboe Quartet, the musical and cabaret trio Panama Hat Trick or in duo with pianist Philip Mayers, Anna has been a guest at international festivals such as Tanglewood, Lucerne, Bath, Musica Nova Brisbane or Innsbruck Early Music Festival. She has recorded for the BBC and ABC (Australia) as well as for radio stations throughout Germany.
