The theme of the 2024 Day of Gardens and Parks is "Our Trees". Fittingly, one of the most famous trees in the region and in European literature will be making an appearance: Die Judenbuche. In their radio play of the same name (WDR 2023), the theatre collective Rimini Protokoll questions the classic for its references to the present day. The text is distributed among different voices, the speakers adopt the characters in an experimental way and make their perspectives heard. Violence, poverty, alcoholism, addictions and anti-Semitic stereotypes that have grown up over the centuries are the themes. The radio play is performed from a high perch in the forest of Hülshoff Castle - where Rimini Protokoll developed the material in 2022 and 2023.
