The starting point for the project Masculine Fairies is the changeability and further development of the narrative of what a body can be. "Fairy" was used in the English-speaking world at the beginning of the 20th century as a designation
used in the English-speaking world at the beginning of the twentieth century to refer to trans-feminine people. But to what extent can the often less visible male trans identity be described, especially in a time when masculinity is critically discussed.
The sculptures, which are witnesses to a body in the process of transition, now become the starting point for a script. The leitmotif for the video work is the search for language: How to narrate one's own transition? Where can words be found for something that is in the process of change? And does the difficulty of naming perhaps offer the possibility of poetry?
The Prolog as a scenic reading provides insights into the development. The sculptures are staged in public and encounter the texts by Emre Busse, CAConrad, Lynn Musiol, Jayrôme C. Robinet here for the first time.
Prolog is the prelude to a new work by Jonas Monka and Minna Wündrich, which is being created together with Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature. The artist Jonas Monka and the actress Minna Wündrich interweave theatre and visual arts in their joint work. They apply characteristic methods and aesthetic concepts to each other. In the resulting play spaces, they explore the language of bodies and speaking about bodies.
