A preview for a performance of 2021 at Burg Hülshoff. It deals with the film versions of crime novels by the English writer Edgar Wallace. From 1959 to 1972, these movies were box office hits in the Federal Republic of Germany. The films, however, repeated norms and patterns that came from the era of National Socialism. Can we, today, in an era threatened by neo-fascism, learn something about ourselves by recapitulating these films? At Burg Hülshoff, which could easily be the setting from one of Wallace’s books, we take a glimpse at the immersive performance that will take place here in fall of 2021. The preview contains a filmic trailer and an introduction into the movies by students of Münster University.
